Mar 6th - Sydney Day 3

Today was not a success at all.

For a start, temperatures in Sydney reached 41c breaking all records for an autumn day. We escaped that by heading off fairly early to the blue mountains but first we had to drive into Sydney to pick up Mark’s dry cleaning. Sydney is not easy to drive around at all and we frequently took wrong turns following the satnav meaning we ended up in the rush hour traffic we needed to avoid. At least we are reunited with all our clothes and belongings now.

We drove first to Leura which had a lovely street of of all kinds of shops with some nice alleyways of shops too. We had breakfast here and browsed the shops and bought a few things. Pam had coffee with a ham and cheese croissant. Mark had juice and a cheese and tomato croissant. Some of the shops were vintage or charity (Pam went in there not Mark) but our favourite was Geekdom where Pam got Star Trek earrings and Mark got Star Wars Cufflinks.

Quirky shops galore here
Pam is keen to show her coffe pattern.

Then it was off to the main event “Scenic World” and the best of the blue mountains. This gives easy access to some of the most amazing scenery the area has to offer. Mark started with a sky cable car across the mountains - which Pam declined. Here are a few pictures.

Then things went bad. Mark returned to find Pam in full panic mode. Crying and shaking and hyperventilating because she was so scared of heights and did not want to do the steep train or cable car to the valley below. So Mark did the train, the mountains walk and the cable car and got back as quickly as possible recording as much as he could to show Pam when he returned.

We went to leave the area and picked up the car from the car park but we found a lovely graze around the bumper. Not 100% sure how it occurred but probably when going up one of the ramps going from floor to floor we must have scrapped a bollard. This is going to no doubt be trouble later but that is what the insurance is for.

So, as Pam had basically not witnessed anything in the blue mountains, Mark tried to direct the car to some areas where Pamela could try and see some views.

Pam here, after calming down we drove to Katoomba cascade waterfall, which was beautiful and I saw it from the bottom. There was a small bridge and stepping stones too. Then we drove to echo point lookout where we took lots of photos of the views and the three sisters (Three tall rocks)

Pictures cannot really capture the views

The famous three sisters

We then moved onto Katoomba village which was bigger than Leura but we didn’t find it as pretty. Definitely more a working village not a tourist village.

Our last stop in the area was Wentworth Falls. This has some nice overall views but not much access or views of the waterfall which was minor anyway due to the dry spell we were in.

You have to really lean over the edge and zoom in to see the waterfall from here
Easy to find colourful birds but they don’t pose

Our final plan for the day was to go to Luna Park which is an old fairground park all lit up and have some dinner there. Unfortunately it was closed but all the lights were on. We never thought to check it would be open or not as thought the lights meant it would be.

A closed Luna Park - just our luck today
At least we witnessed a nice sunset across the harbour

We headed back to Nick’s house and  we tried to pick up some fast food but the places we found either had no parking access or we couldn’t find how to access the car parks so kept saying that we would try the next one until there were no more next ones.

We arrived back Nick tired and Nick’s wife Alissia insisted on cooking and feeding us pizza - they have been so good. We chatted with the whole family and it brought back memories of life with our daughters when they were young.
