Mar 19th - Adelaide to Perth

We had a lie in and breakfast in the hotel before ordering a taxi and heading off to the airport for our final flight - off to Perth. There is a 2.5 hr time zone difference so when we landed in Perth we were now only 8 hours ahead of the UK. The flight, just over 3hrs was pretty standard. Mark managed to sleep thru half of it and Pam watch tv shows on the iPad. Both our ears were affected by the flight - this is a common issue for Pam but very rare for Mark. At least all the flying parts are out the way now.

We checked into our Perth hotel - which is near Elizabeth Quay. It seems to have a Japanese slant to it as everything is QR code based and most items are in English and Japanese. Still it suited our needs.

The beds are all same though this one was on wheels so moved a bit
Standard bathroom
One of the nicer showers as it was fully enclosed so no leaks

It was mid afternoon so we decided to explore. Everything was pretty quiet and there seemed more pigeons than people around. We managed to get some fast food and headed to the train station where a nice ticket lady stated that it was Sunday so almost everything in the city was closed and informed us that this was not Sydney or Melbourne you know!

A friend of Mark’s - John, who he hadn’t seen in 20 years - is currently in Perth in a conference. He advised us to go to Cottesloe Beach so we did!

No double decker trains here

The station was about 1km to the beach so we slowly sauntered up there and got there by about 5:30pm. We mention the time as we felt it was quite late but no, we had found all the people. The city is empty coz they are at the beach.

Found the people!

Also on the beach was a special sculpture event. Some were on the pathways above the beach and others, like a hall of mirrors, were on the beach themselves. Here a few.

A hollow ‘Star Wars’ like head
How did you get up there?

We joined a long queue for ice creams and water and waited for the sun to set.

Mark’s friend John then joined us and we headed off a few train stops in Fremantle for dinner, drinks and Mark to have a catch-up. Fremantle looked a lovely area though we are only seeing it at night. It is a Sunday and lots of bars were open and everyone was very sedate compared to last night’s  Adelaide environment.

John insisted on buying us dinner - we just had pizzas as we had scoffed sushi, chicken and all sorts about 4hrs ago.

Mark and John went off for a call with another old friend so Pam took pics of Pizza

A lovely evening and a long travel day ended with an Uber back to the hotel.
