Apr 11th - Sea Day 1

This was a very lazy sea day which was needed after yesterday’s exertions and food. Pam awoke at 8.40 and read and left a waking Mark, at 9:30, to go for breakfast and then walked the promenade deck once. She came across one guy walking the wrong way round which may sound trivial but is like a car the wrong way on a motorway and everyone has to navigate round them.

Mark read and wrote and had a light breakfast of porridge.

We met Andrew and Diane in the Carinthia lounge to submit questions for a passengers quiz later in the week. Each submits questions and we answer each others to see who win. We hope it won’t be wine. Afterwards, we played a game of theirs called New York Zoo game which involves collecting animals and building a zoo on your board. It was great fun and at one stage we had 4 waiters and 2 passengers watching us - nobody got served for a couple of minutes. Pam won so was happy and wants to buy that game. We have enough already but an item will soon be in our Amazon basket.

We had a Carinthia light lunch (Pam had flatbread with peppers and chicken and a tiramisu flavoured dessert. Mark had a club sandwich with crisps and a chocolate mousse). We headed back to pour cabin to do washing and managed to get 2 loads done so Mark has trousers again. It always seems that you have loads of most items but none of a certain one.

In the afternoon we met Janet in Illuminations for the planetarium show called Dark Universe. This was about dark matter and all the discoveries made surrounding it and the other galaxies out there. Also it mentioned about the universe being so hot before the Big Bang and that over many years our satellites have captured so much information about space beyond our galaxies. It was narrated by American astronomer Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Mark fell asleep (that’s watched 2 slept once on this cruise but slept 3 watched 2 in all on this particular ship).

We moved to the Carinthia again and taught Janet how to play the board game Ticket to Ride and then we played the game Sequence.

Then we went back to our cabin and watched the port talk on Tenerife and got ready for dinner which we had in the restaurant and were sat next to another couple who were also with us on  Arcadia. Pam had smoked salmon terrine then Basa fillet with mashed potatoes, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes followed by ice cream and coffee and a mini meringue with poppyseeds.

Mark had radish salad then sirloin steak with chunky chips followed by ice cream and cheese with some crackers grapes and walnuts.

We didn’t fancy the show - a female vocalist - so went back to the cabin to watch TV and read. We rejoined Andrew, Diane and Raju for the late night quiz and got a measly 11 out of 20. We ended the evening in G32 for Karaoke as we wanted to see Arthur, the singing Rabbi, letting his hair down. He didn’t show up! They were desperate for singers so Andrew sang Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Mark did the Bee Gees, You Should Be Dancing - they were both great.

Tonight Matthew, Mark will be Barry Gibb

We will end with pics from the G32 nightclub for our ship tour section.

There is a smaller 2nd level but that is hardly used as the dance floor is on this level
