3rd Feb - Sea Day

Mark awoke before Pam and went to see the new lecturer who did a talk on Hawaiian plants and wildlife. Not too sure why as we have left there and though he is a very prominent ecologist he struggled with his computer - Mark slunk in his chair, he is on holiday and doesn’t want to get involved with that.

He then went off to play the shuffleboard competition again and is still rubbish. Won 1 match before being knocked out. It seems everyone has their niche activity on here that they do regularly and perfect and unfortunately there are no prizes for eating and napping which we seem to excel at. Pam got a coffee and croissant at Cafe Vivvo and relaxed, and then we both read, by the Neptune pool where they were setting up for a lunch buffet.

Setting up for lunch. It’s OK we didn’t have to swim for it.
The salmon and shrimp skewers were the best

The chef didn’t produce this orange meringue pie just for us but Pam tucked in

After lunch we tackled our huge laundry pile - yes truly exciting stuff! Then, whilst Pam went off to the Flamenco guitarist (that sounds like she is having an affair) Mark did laps and laps of the promenade deck and found out it was 31c so that called for a swim/splash in the pool to cool down. He had the pool more or less to himself as the rocking of the ship was causing huge waves but as Mark uses the pool for dipping and cooling off, and not swimming, it was perfect.

Pam here - I am not having an affair with the guitarist (Sam Moore) who is in his 30s and is far from Spanish. Today he performed songs from different regions of Spain and was very relaxing.

Before we move onto our evening’s events it is back to our ship tour. We move along deck 3 and next to the small essentials shop from yesterday, and opposite the cinema, is the ocean room. This is home to the late night syndicate quiz for us but during the day it has things like art and learn a language classes.

The syndicate quiz scoreboard in the background. The eggheads can take it with them when they get off.

Overall, we don’t use the inside of this deck much except for Cafe Vivvo.

Back to our evening. We started the evening with the house band Pulse and their show “I believe in a thing called Rock”. Everything from Led Zeppelin to Pink so quite loose with their definition but the music was good as usual and this has become one of our favourite venues each night even if the globe is always freezing.

Then, still stuffed from lunch, we had a light supper in the buffet of pork and noodles. We joined are quiz partners Lesley and Chris at dinner and afterwards the men went to save seats in the spinnaker bar for the 9:45 quiz whilst the ladies fed their addiction by disappearing off to the library to work on the 1000 piece jigsaw currently on the go.

We were pants at the quiz but finished the evening with the excellent Headliners Theatre Company show “Applause” which was all about theatre shows with one song and dance number rolling into another and ending with a long segment on Les Miserables. Probably their strongest non-storyline show so out of the 7 offered so far we place it at number 2 behind the Magic Moments show. They are obviously saving their best and greatest show till last though.
